Chapter 2. The waterworks show

I talk to my mom a lot since ive moved out of my hometown(a story for another day). She said to me as I am starting to get very pregnant if we could get together before the baby comes.

Of course I said yes and she booked her flight. She was going to arrive when I was entering my 34th week of pregnancy. I was big, but we could still go out and enjoy our time together before life gets crazy. She said she would have came after baby was born too but didn’t want to be there and watch me breastfeed the whole time, fair point! So it was settled, May 12-19 she’d be here.

Everything was fine, very normal..

P.S. As i get into this story i want to forewarn the TMI disclosure. I figure this is a story about birth so yes there will be details that might be TMI, but also… is it? Anyways. Continuing on.

On a beautiful sunday afternoon, we decided to hit up a waterpark/splashpad in town.

To backtrack a little to what was going on with me.

I have been going to my OB every two weeks nearly my entire pregnancy. Initually i went until i was 24 weeks pegnant as there was a procedure they could do if they felt my cervix was changing. It however didnt budge so we were “in the clear” to have a month-ish break from the every 2 week appointments(what a big break! lol)

Then, i think once I was getting into third trimester it got ramped back up to every 2 weeks. The clinic did a really good job covering all bases since i had a history of a Preterm baby aka The First Baby Story. At some of the appointments they’d of course ask “any questions? any changes?” I was 32 weeks and I stated how i was having some ever so slightly discharge(what a word).

They made note, but nothing more and honestly I didn’t think much of it as it was not watery like the amniotic fluid. I figured this is normal third trimester business.

Then we get to this fun waterpark for a sunday funday afternoon. It was a good time, other then my bath suit top breaking. That poor thing, i think i really pushed it to the limit and that back clip didn’t hold up. Funny side note. But honestly the waterpark was uneventful.. and then we got home.

I changed at the park into my dry clothes. When got home, I went to the bathroom and noticed my undies didnt just have a little spot but they were more wet then before. Interesting I thought, then i continued on with my day.

We got ready to do our night time routine which included taking a country drive out to my horse for night time chores. My mom, tanner and myself load up into our car and hit the road. As we are making a few turns in town I start telling my mom this TMI detail about stuff coming out of me.. She says “uhhh I think we should go to the hospital”.

Im like really?

Is it that big of a deal?

Well, we don’t know. But it doesn’t hurt to just go get checked. So I make a right instead of a left and we head to the hospital. The OB clinic did tell me if i have any issues to go to the Womans Pavillion which is apart of the hopsital, they just deal with the womenly things, mainly Labour & Delivery.

We get checked in, go to a room, I strip down and put on a gown, they hook my belly up to two monitors for contractions and babys heartbeat and we wait for tests.

First, we are going to get that fluid checked. Nothing like getting a few long Q-tips up there to realize the things we must endure through womanhood. Oh, then checking to see if im dilated. What are personal boundaries when you are pregnant? Ya, there really isnt any, and you can’t really do anything about it either.

After her politely rummaging around in there, she says well you are 1cm dilated. Which is also normal for being 34 weeks pregant.

Ok, so far no answers.

The swab tests come back, one stated it was my water and one stated it wasn’t. They said we are not sure where you’re at, but just to be safe we are going to treat this like early labour and get you admitted.

Interesting I thought, I had no pain, no earlier symptoms like i did with Tanner. I was literally floating down the lazy river 2 hours earlier.

“hm, the monitor says you are getting a contraction, do you feel anything?” the nurse asked. I shook my head and said I feel nothing.

Well, all of that was about to change…and quickly

Stay tuned for the next update.
