Living in the Future

Do you ever find yourself focusing on the future, so caught up with the potentials and the what ifs? If so, you’re not alone. I think everyone can hop into that category from time to time.

I find myself when I envision the future; not on any specific date but just 1 year, 5 years, 20 years down the line I get incredibly overwhelmed and anxious. We are trying to make sense of something we simply cannot. The anxiety is our body saying “I don’t belong in a future imagination, I belong right here, right now.”

Presence. Coming back to it.

Why am I so ahead of myself?

Why am I attempting to piece together what my life will look like then, and not being fully in the moment of where I am in right now in my life?

Is it worry?

Is it doubt that my future is scattered? Messy? Unpredictable? Wishful? Blurry?

Seeing your future is a great exercise; it can be anyways.

But constantly living there is not.

The only place you live is right now.

Your current reality of “now” will shape your future.

So, if you want to start having real control over your future, start with what you’re doing right now.

Faith does play a part. We have to have faith in ourselves and believe the future will offer me exactly what I need. The future is full of beautiful moments I have yet to experience.

They are patiently waiting for me there, it’s time I start doing the same.

Embrace today. Embrace your present moment. Embrace the chapter you’re in and fully live it. Know that this chapter will close and a new one will begin. No one truly knows what is in store for us and how the universe decides to unfold itself to us.

But, that is also apart of the excitement of life! The mystery, the wonder and excitement of what is all possible for us!

I read a book titled “Choose Wonder over Worry”. As you can imagine what it was all about. It was a good read and I’d suggest it to anyone looking to shift their internal narrative to choose the wonder in life over the worry.

Life is our gift. Today is our gift, how we live today will come into fruition in the future. Trust that. Trust you are on the right path, may as well enjoy it by being fully consumed in the present moment of it all.

Big breath in. Long slow exhale out.

You got this.
